The First Lady

Yvette Daniels used to have the life church folks celebrate and secretly envy: first lady of a mega ministry, married to Bishop Joseph Daniels, polished, poised, and always “on.” What nobody saw was the cost. Behind closed doors, the anointed bishop was controlling, manipulative, and emotionally and physically abusive. After years of shrinking herself and calling it “submission,” Yvette does the unthinkable in her world—she files for divorce.

The title is gone. The marriage is over. And Yvette is left standing in the wreckage, trying to figure out who she is without “First Lady” attached to her name.

Then she meets Blake.

What begins as simple conversation in a season of heartbreak slowly becomes something deeper, forcing Yvette to confront a truth she’s never been allowed to say out loud: God cares about her heart, not just her role. As her son Isaiah wrestles with his own questions, and Joseph continues to lurk at the edges of her new life, Yvette finds herself caught between fear of what she left, desire for what could be, and the nagging ache of “what will people say?”
